I decided to change my choice of song, but stay with the same group. Coldplay. After I had put up “Violet hill”, I got a large number of requests to try “Viva la vida”. Too many requests to ignore really. So I set about recording that one. It’s another one from their latest album with the same title.

some consider that it’s not very professional to cover songs with backing tracks, but I always find a use in everything I attempt in music. One of the things I want to get really good at is production. It’s great to record all the musical parts perfectly, but if the mix isn’t produced properly, then all that work means very little.

One of the aspects I’ve been concentrating on is vocal production, and I’ve been trying to match that of the original song. I think it’s made a big difference in the result, and it’s teaching me how to produce my own voice in relation to the different types of music.

I’ve implemented vocal boosting on this song. Plus low to moderate plate reverb in the verses. Chorus and a heavier plate reverb in the chorus.

This is the result. Viva la vida.

Viva la vida - Coldplay cover by Jeffstunes

Now for the statistics digest for my Youtube channel.

I’ve had a few subs come and go, but yesterday I woke up to 6 new subscribers overnight. The total now stands at 727.

Channel viewings are currently 16,529.

My total video views have done it! They’ve broken the quarter of a million views. All of this within a year of posting my first video. The current figure now stands at 254,512.

Hopefully I can now go back and do that old Coldplay album track

Now for some cover versions. This one is quite a recent tune, and is called “Violet hill”. It’s taken from the excellent Coldplay album entitled “Viva la vida”.

I had several Coldplay songs lined up to cover, and I chose this as the first of the batch. It was extremely hard to get the falsetto on this song, so I dropped the music by a semitone. Even then I still struggled, but I just about managed it.

It was quite noisy in the skies above my village over the weekend I recorded this. I live a few miles away from a place called Goodwood. They hold a number of annual events and one of them is called “The festival of speed”. So while it was on, I snapped a few of the aircraft from my back garden. I have added those to the vid. All I will say is that one aircraft in particular got extremely close, and it wasn’t the smallest flying object in the world!!!

Check out my cover of this brilliant song, and see my snaps:

The Youtube stats are still moving well.

I now have 721 subscribers in total.

My channel viewings are now up to 16,254.

The overall video views are so close now. 249,532. Barring disasters, it will pass the quarter of a million tomorrow

My next one will probably be another Coldplay song. There’s a track on one of their albums that I’ve always wanted to sing

This is the 3rd of my old original songs choices. This is a song called “Winner”. The words can be interpreted in different ways, but the meaning I attach to it is for mistaken friends who need support.

This song was also co-written with Mick Paul. I finish off with details about what mick is up to now in his music career.

If you saw the video in my last post, you will no doubt have discovered that Mick played bass on a hit single for David Hasselhoff in the UK. I don’t think there’s many individuals who don’t know who the Hoff is. He’s been in smash hit shows such as “Knight rider”, “Baywatch” and “America’s got talent”.

Here is “Winner”:

Winner - Jeff Edwards and Mick Paul

Mick is quite busy doing the touring thing at the moment, with an outfit named “The David Cross band”. David Cross used to be in a band called “King Crimson”. They were very well known. If you come from Italy, you might have heard of David Cross. He’s pretty popular there, and it’s one of the reasons why most of Mick’s touring takes place in Italy.

Now here’s the regular Youtube numbers update.

My subscribers have seen a really good jump in the last few days. Racing past the 700 barrier to 717.

The channel views have rolled along to 16,017. Another barrier broken.

Last but by no means least. The total video views. They are 246,003.To say I’m pleased is an understatement!!

I’m probably going to do a few coldplay covers in my next few videos, because I love singing their songs.

Who knows what I will do. I’ll choose when I choose. I remember putting the finishing touches to my album about this time last year.

You can listen to some of the songs tracks and also download some of my original material for free on my website. Here’s the address:

This is the second of three songs written by Mick Paul and I several years ago, that I have selected to upload. Ths one gives you a taste of Mick’s bass skills. I wanted acoustic guitar and Bass only in this, and I think it turned out very well. The vocals are a little off key in places. This song, and most of the others written with Mick. were written hours before they were recorded, so I’m not really surprised at the mistakes.

The song is about a contreversial subject, though I’m not going let you know what it means here. You’ll have to watch the video to discover it. I reveal the meaning at the end. It puts a whole new angle on the lyrics.

Getting back to Mick. Here’s some information on this very talented guy:

Played on 2 singles in 1970.

Joined “The Hotshots” in 1973. They had a number 4 hit.

Joined “Union express” in 1974 and toured around Europe for 2 years.

From 1978, he did some session work for the B.B.C. and for a various number of publishers.

He was also an in-house bass player at Abbeydale studios in West London.

Co-wrote the Labour Party campaign song in 1987.

Joined “More tea vicar in 1990.

Wrote and played on a single called “Aquarius” for Yello records, which was produced by Tyrrell.

Played on the “David Hasselhoff” single “If we could only say goodbye” (Yes. The Hoff).

and more..

I’ll provide a link to his recording studio website:

Froosound Recording Studio

Mick is the person doing all the music in this song. He also did the music for the song in the previous post, and the next post I do.

The title of this song is “Losing my mind”. I hope you like it, and the Bass playing

Losing my mind - Jeff Edwards and Mick Paul

Now here is the latest youtube account stats.

A rise in my subs to 692.

Channel views are now at 15,540.

The overall vid views are 237,970. Almost at a quarter of a million. climbing at about a thousand views a day.

Next up is the third and final upload of my three old original songs.

I was still working hard on the album at this time. I woke up singing a song. Weird I know, but it was pretty good. So I put it together to see what it sounded like, and if it made the grade, then It would be considered for the album.

I’m going to step back in time a bit with 3 selected songs I wrote when I first started to record music seriously.

A few years ago I wrote and recorded 9 songs in about a teo week period with a very talented guy called “Mick Paul”.

Mick plays a mean Bass Guitar and has been busy in his career up to now. He also owns his own recording studio, and this is where those 9 songs were recorded.

I’ve picked 3 of those songs to upload to youtube, and this is the first of them.

This one is called “Amber falls”. It’s a pretty dark song. I wonder if you can work out what the song is about, before the video tells you near the end.

Check out the video here:

Amber falls - Jeff Edwards and Mick Paul

I’ve included some information about Mick in the video, and I will be putting more information in the following 2 videos from that collection. It’s possible that you may recognise a name or two from the information to come.

I put a warning in the video description of this song, because the song contains what is known as “Speaker busters”. Extremely deep high volume bass notes, that can cause damage to a bass speaker when it’s turned up full. So be warned

Now for some youtube food.

I’m only 10 away from 700 subscribers now. So I’ve currently got 690.

The channel viewings have increased to 15,424.

My total video viewings are 235,621. Quarter of a million coming up soon.

Coming next is the second of these three old original songs.

I decided to take a few days break from putting the album together, and I recorded a requested song, from a while ago. It’s a song I really wanted to do because it seems a very simple song, but it’s quite vocally expressive. The song I’m talking about is “No surprises” by “Radiohead”.

The making of the vid was pretty easy. Not much going on in it. I’m just sitting in and out of a shadow, through the entire song. The video of the original is just the man’s face in what looks like a space helmet, filling up with water. I didn’t use any water though.

Instead, I concentrated on bringing moments of my life to mind that have strong emotional connections, so that there would be subtle changes in expression.

This is the final outcome:

My cover of No surprises by Radiohead

As per normal. Here is the latest news on my Youtube account statistics.

677 subscribers.

14,891 channel viewings.

224,885 overall video views.

Until the next post

I was in the middle of writing another song when I came up with the idea for this one. So I stopped writing the first one to complete this song. It’s a song called “Broadcast fantasy”.

I racked up two years on Youtube a while back, and after my first year, I thought this would be a really fitting song to upload in celebration. The song is an amusing poke at addiction to television. As Youtube is all about videos, it seemed the perfect choice.

This is different in style again, to my previous songs. I think this one sits more in the pop arena.

I hope you enjoy it like I did:

This video was uploaded less that 24 hours ago, and the reaction so far is excellent. The daily honours have been building nicely

So back to the numbers. Here’s the Youtube latest.

I’ve now got 639 subscribers on my Channel.

My channel has now been seen 13,842 times, and all of my videos have received a total of 205,218 viewings.

I’m aiming to make the song I was originally working on, my next upload. Though I have a habit of changing my mind at the last minute

I was watching a T.V. program hosted by Graham Norton some time ago. and he visited a website that altered faces into different ages and races. Such as a child and an East-Asian. All you have to do is upload a front facing jpg of yourself, and you are ready to go. I thought I’d give it a try, and upload the results to my Youtube channel.

I set it as a challenge to the Youtube community. Requesting that they do exactly the same as me with their own pictures. Then post them as a video response to my one. That way, all our strange pictures could be accessible from one place.

This video was a slideshow, so I dug out a song I wrote a few years back, to use as the backing. The name of the song is “I understand”. This way I could get another of my tunes out, and have some fun at the same time.

Check out my video to see what happened to my photo:

As per normal. Here’s some youtube stats.

My subs have breezed past the 600 barrier and are now 605.

Channel views are 12,798.

My total video views are getting real close to the 200k mark now, and currently stand at 186,136. It’s looking like it might pass that figure in the next few weeks.

Well the response to my last cover, “Yellow” by “Coldplay” was really good. It had over 800 viewings in the first 2 days of being uploaded.

That was the most requested song on my list. Now to the song that was second on my most requested list. A fairly new number from one of my favourite bands, Travis. The title of the song is Closer, and it’s off of their latest album.

I had a few ideas for the video, but I wanted to save the best ones for my original songs. So I decided to do something funny for this one. My video editing software took ages to render the opening sequence. I think it was worth it though.

See what you think of my rendition of Closer by Travis. I hope you find the video amusing. It made me laugh when I made it.

I’ve put several videos out over the last few weeks, but the effect on my Youtube numbers is quite minimal. They are still quite constant. My subs are now up to 597. Only 3 more to get to 600.

The channel viewings are now up to 12,631 and the total figure of all the viewings of my videos is now up to 183,585.

That’s all for now.

This is the 67th video, which I put on Youtube last year. This is a cover of a Coldplay song from the album “Parachutes”. I have been asked by many people to do a cover of this song, so it is high time I did it.

This is a number I used to sing quite often, and it’s a favourite of some of my personal friends. I do enjoy singing coldplay songs, because of the subtleties in the vocals, and the opportunity for falsetto, and there’s plenty of that in this song.

This is my attempt at Yellow:

The Jeffstunes version of Yellow by Coldplay

My Youtube numbers are still on the march, and here is the latest update.

Iv’e now got 589 Subscribers. I’m closing in on 600.

12,360 Channel views, and an overall video view count of 178,166. I should pass the 200,000 within a month, the way things are going.

A number of my Youtube friends recommended that I apply for the Youtube partnership program. I tried it, but got refused in a gentle way. It seems that the quantity of my original material is insufficient, or I don’t get enough constant traffic to my videos, to qualify yet. I shall keep on trying
